Meet Kelly Brodbeck (kelly.brodbeck13@gmail.com) with ACTs. This group of residents is trying to improve road safety along Alameda Padre Serra (APS). Road Safety IS public safety. APS was built over 100 years ago to service the Normal School, which eventually became UCSB and relocated. A California state grant to establish the school on the Riviera required an extension of the streetcar line from the Mission. The streetcar stopped running here in 1929 but APS has served as an important and busy roadway ever since. Human Trafficking happens everywhere- including Santa Barbara. Recent articles in the @sbindependent highlight the prevalence of sex trafficking and labor trafficking right here in SB county. Tbh I was shocked that this labor trafficker was only sentenced to 1 year given that this was his 2nd time caught. Fortunately recent regulation AB 1583 makes it easier to file criminal charges for complex labor trafficking cases not only where the offense physically occurred, but also in the county where the victim resided at the time of the crime.
